______________________Deon Stokes____________________________

Deon is one of our most prominent riders in WA, training, competing and coaching successfully in a wide range of disciplines. He has been a part of Horseland Maddington's Sponsored Riders team for over 5 years now, and is a fantastic ambassador and asset to our store.

Just a few of Deon's recent achievements are listed:
2011 Equestrian WA Athlete of the Year
2011 Sydney CDI 6yo Young Dressage Horse Champion
2010 DWTS National 5yo Young Dressage Horse Champion
2010 DWTS National 5yo YDH Reserve Champion
2011 DWTS National 6yo YDH Reesrve Champion
2012 WA State Novice, Medium and Prix St George Champion

Deon is also long time listed on both the WA State Senior Dressage and Eventing Squads, currently on the National Futures Squad for Dressage and previously listed on National Talent Search squad for eventing. He's also WA Eventing Riders Representative. The plan now is to compete at the 2012 National Dressage Championships in Sydney, Sydney CCI Eventing, Australian International CCI Eventing and the Dressage Festival in Melbourne (October - December).

Deon started riding on the farm as a child chasing sheep but started riding competitivly when he left school and started his Environmental Science Degree. Currently, Deon works closely with Kate at Narbethong and competes her stallions for her very successfully. He also has his own business, Stokes Sport Horses, located in Darling Downs, which is a full-on enterprise. Deon's day generally starts around 6.30am when the horses get fed, then he starts riding around 7am, riding through all the horses until about 1pm, when he starts coaching. He coaches both flat work and jumping from his base in Darling Downs and occasionally runs XC clinics. Deon generally finishes teaching between 5.30-8.30 depending on the evening. THe horses are brought in and fed around 5pm and he checks on them in the evening before bed. Then he gets up and does it all over again!
